The Regulation on Rehabilitation of Mining Sites (“Regulation”) was published in the Official Gazette dated 23 January 2026. With this Regulation, the rehabilitation obligations, financial principles and administrative authorities regarding the restoration of areas degraded as a result of mining activities have been comprehensively regulated. Accordingly, the integration of rehabilitation throughout the entire course of mining activities, the obligation of licence holders to pay an annual rehabilitation fee, the imposition of sanctions up to and including the cancellation of licences in case of non-compliance, and the possibility of refunding rehabilitation fees to licence holders who fully fulfil their obligations have been introduced.
