On 21 July 2025, our Managing Partner Zihni Gönen and Senior Associate Başak Eser took part as guest lecturers in the Arbitration Summer School organized by the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA), which brought together law students from across Europe.
As part of the opening day program, they delivered a comprehensive session on key aspects of international commercial law. The presentation addressed:
- Practical considerations in drafting and negotiating international commercial contracts
- An overview of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), with a focus on its key principles and application
- A case study based on GAFTA arbitration, demonstrating how disputes in international commodity trade are resolved in practice
Throughout the Summer School, participants also explored a wide range of fundamental topics, including:
- Contract structuring and checklists
- Governing law, contract pricing, liability allocation and commercial objectives
- The globalization of international trade and its legal implications
- The legal framework of international commercial relations
- The role and drafting of dispute resolution clauses
- The scope and application of the CISG
