With the regulation numbered 32693 made by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security on Tuesday October 15, the work permit exemption granted to foreigners who can make a significant contribution to Turkey in matters such as socio-cultural, technological and economic fields and education has been increased from six months to three years, in case of notification by the relevant public institutions and organizations. Although the relevant amendments regulation does not provide exemption for foreigners from obtaining a permit, it provides different opportunities regarding the evaluation and management of the application
Occupational groups that will be considered exempt in terms of work permits:
• Those who will work within scope of scientific, cultural, artistic and sports activities,
• Academics,
• Researchers
• Professionals who work in oil and gas exploration and extraction activities, • Seafarers
• Professional sportsmen,
• Tour operator representatives and interns.
The changes in the new regulation are as follows:
• Those under temporary protection and foreigners with a humanitarian residence permit, who are notified by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, will be able to benefit from work permit exemption.
• Foreign press members who come to Turkey with the approval of the Directorate of Communications can receive a work permit exemption with in the scope of permanent-press card.
• Work permit exemption has also been made easier for foreign sportsmen and sports personnel who come with the approval of the Ministry of Youth and Sports or the Turkish Football Federation.
• The work permit exemption period for foreigners who will work as tour operator representatives will be determined according to the calendar year. • Additionally, the 30-day period (related to work permit exemption for foreigners) starting from the date of legal entry into Turkey has been abolished. Foreigners can now apply for work permit exemption during their legal stay in Turkey.
